Synopsis
Based on Susanna Kaysen’s 1993 memoir about her two-year stay in a mental institution in 1967. Winona Ryder plays 17-year-old Kaysen, who is diagnosed with BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder)an affliction with ambiguous symptoms that almost any teenage girl could have. Prescribed a short rest at a renowned mental institution, she encounters a world of disturbed young women like Lisa (Angelina Jolie). Finding herself on a strange journey, she spends more than a year struggling on the border between normal and crazy. When she realizes how difficult it is to be released once committed, she stages an escape along with Lisa and ultimately attempts to reclaim her life.
