In Russia over 38,000 people are wiped out by sarin gas – the panel declines to authorize a Backstep. Olga receives a call from a friend, Sergei, who claims his sister was killed by the gas. Sergei unites her with Professor Misha, who headed the Russian time travel project based on an alien craft they found in Russia, and want her help to undo the gas incident. She eventually turns over the formula for stabilizing the energy flow but Sergei and a General Sobchak intended to use it to stage a military coup (using the gas “leak” they staged to undermine public confidence) and kill the President with a nuke. Olga figures out Sergei is involved and confesses her role.

Frank goes back with orders to reveal what Olga did in the eliminated timeline – of course, he doesn’t. Frank stops the release of the sarin gas and gets Olga into Russia to get Misha to take her to the facility and follow them, but loses her. Frank stops the attack on the President by sabotaging the warhead. Mischa isn’t convinced and they capture her, but it’s Frank to the rescue. They prepare to launch but Frank thwarts them and they escape with a fatally wounded Misha as the Russian sphere explodes. But we find out at the end that Sergei escaped and threatens to come after Olga in the future.
